Welcome

Get Your Skates On!

As President of the New Zealand Ice Figure Skating Association I take this opportunity to welcome all visitors to our website.

If you are a New Zealander looking for information about ice skating in your area, I urge you to contact your nearest club, whose members will be able to give you assistance and information about ice skating in your region.

If you are an overseas visitor, a special welcome to you and thank you for your interest in ice figure skating in New Zealand. New Zealand is a small country with a population of just over 4 million people. Ice figure skating is a minority sport but pursued enthusiastically by our members.

There are indoor ice rinks in Auckland (2), Wellington (Upper Hutt). Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown and Gore, and seasonal outdoor rinks in Alexandra and Tekapo.

We have approximately 300 competitive and/or medal test members who participate in Singles, Pairs, Ice Dancing, Synchronized Skating and Adult Skating.

In the 2023-24 skating season, we had skaters compete in a number of international competitions including the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships and, as a very first for New Zealand, the Winter Youth Olympics Games, where history was made with Yanhao (Dwayne) Li not only being the first New Zealand skater to ever gain Youth Olympics selection but also earning New Zealand the Bronze medal in the Men’s figure skating event. Dwayne was also a bronze medallist in a Junior Grand Prix event in 2023, also making history as the first ever New Zealand skater to medal in such an event.

Titanium, a Junior Synchronised skating team, represented New Zealand at the 2024 ISU Junior World Synchronised Skating Championships, this also being our first team to compete at this event.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like more information after viewing our website.
